Description
Garlic (Allium sativum), a pungent and flavorful member of the lily family, has been a cornerstone of worldwide cuisines for centuries due to its strong, onionlike flavor and aroma and its ability to accent and amplify other flavors.
Native to central Asia, the plant grows wild in Southern Europe and is a key ingredient in many regional cuisines, including Italian, Greek, Middle Eastern, Indian, Thai and Chinese.
Garlic is typically grown as an annual crop grown from cloves or bulbils. Plants can reach two feet and, depending on the variety, leaves typically emerge from a hard stem above the bulb.
The bulb is covered with an opaque skin and covers up to 20 edible bulbs called cloves.
Organic Granulated Garlic can be added to recipes in place of fresh garlic to achieve the same flavor.
Substitute one level teaspoon for one clove of fresh garlic in recipes.
Storage & handling
Store in cool, dry place.
