Basic Prep
To rehydrate, combine 2 parts Butternut Squash Flakes to 1 part water to achieve a thick puree consistency.
Suggestion Use:
- Use to add flavor to soups, casseroles, pastas, salads, or breads
- Add into macaroni and cheese for a new flavor twist
- Bake into muffins or cake for a warm and savory seasonal addition
- Blend with mashed potatoes for an upscale side dish
Description
Butternut Squash is a member of the Cucurbitaceae or gourd family, along with pumpkins, watermelon and cucumbers.
It has a tan to light yellow skin and a rich orange flesh that is most often either roasted or boiled and tastes similar to pumpkin or sweet potato.
Butternut is now the most popular among the winter squash varieties, although it was not commonly eaten until the 19th century.
Butternut squash is naturally low in fat and sodium, as well as being a good source of fiber and vitamins A and C.
